Empowering the Occupant
Empowering the Occupant is a four part study with four aligned objectives:
- Determine the most important behaviors to cultivate, train & integrate with building systems.
- Establish how O2 is conducted today and identify best practices (or pitfalls to avoid) for occupant integration with other building systems.
- Conduct a case study analysis on building with documented high performance, occupant satisfaction and involvement.
- Conduct a field study of a newly occupied building designed for high performance and document post-occupancy selection of training and application of best practices.
The following assumptions are necessary to explore this thesis:
Information to confirm or deny the validity of these assumptions are desired to maintain the academic integrity of the project and usefulness to the body of work.
- Occupant behavior can be influenced in a way that is good for building performance and occupant comfort.
- There is a relationship between Operations and Maintenance (O&M) and occupant interactions.
- References to occupant/building performance/O&M interaction in existing standards do not have established protocols.
Information to confirm or deny the validity of these assumptions are desired to maintain the academic integrity of the project and usefulness to the body of work.
