Occupant Orientation (O2) is happening everyday in buildings and to my knowledge there is not an existing model to help owners, managers and operators optimize the relationship between building and occupant. A key element of O2 research is to understand best practices and challenges. This survey is designed to capture key trends which will inform the O2 Model for my thesis. I intend to share this model to improve building performance at a macro scale.
Who should take this survey: Building Owners and Operators. This means different things in different buildings. You may be a facility or property manger, building engineer or Human Resources professional. Purpose of this survey: To understand the possible impact of Occupant Orientation (i.e. knowledge, coaching, training, and incentives as methods of encouraging and realizing changes in occupant behavior) on energy performance in High Performance Buildings (HPB). Required information: The survey is voluntary and all answers are optional. Questions focus use and size of the building, occupants and operations & maintenance and performance. What if my building is not a a High Performance Building (HPB)? If you are interested in optimizing building performance I want to know more about your building so please take the survey. If you have access to the performance of the building under a rating system [e.g., ENERGY STAR (TM) Portfolio Manager], performance is addressed in question 23 and helps provide data for reference. How long will it take? There are 25 questions total. Conservatively it could take up to 15 minutes but many entries could be input in half that time. I am a graduate student doing this on my own dime thus there are no financial incentives for participation. What I offer is two-fold: 1) to develop a model to help further the industry and 2) use the survey to base this model in reality (v. theory) by applying hard won best practices or lessons learned from the field. I would be grateful if you would take the survey, pass the survey to someone you know or do both. Since O2 is a no-to-low cost way to boost building performance and satisfaction the more discussion and understanding the better!
